Anyone can build a blog, and writing a single blog article seems even more effortless.

Writing a perfect blog post that is read and commented on and shared on social networks is, of course, another house number.

With this blog post, we would like to introduce you to step-by-step instructions for a successful blog post and provide you with new inspiration!

So — let’s get started!

10 steps to create the Perfect Blog Post

Step Number 0:

The Topic

A while ago, we published an article named “Seven ways to find great content for a blog”, but we never thought that an article called “ Where to Find Topics to Write about” can be helpful too.

There are many accessible resources to get an idea or ideas for what to write about.

By the time we find time to write something helpful on this topic — stick to headline generators or get inspiration from your favourite authors, for instance.

Step Number 1:

The Headline — the Nuts and Bolts

Information overload: we are confronted with advertising and content online and offline throughout the day. It is all the more important to stand out with your headline to attract attention. And why is the headline so important?

Because you read it first!

A headline is not just read first and defines the topic. At the same time, the headline is a promise to readers and is intended to indicate what to expect.

It makes sense to start with the headline because it is much easier to make a promise (headline) and then fulfil it with your text.

A Tip: you can easily collect ideas and inspiration for new topics via Evernote.

Step # 2

Research and research again

Writing a blog post that interests the readers and is exciting also requires that the author has dealt with the topic in depth.

That is why research in advance is fundamental — what is there already on the subject?

And yes, there is also keyword research, which is just as important! Although you wrote your blog post for people and not for search engines, your blog post must still please the search engines.

The question now arises, how do you optimize your text for the search engine?

The answer is straightforward: mostly with keywords.

The search engine will find your blog post attractive, and you will be found for specific terms.

As soon as a main and a few secondary keywords have been found, these should be incorporated in the headline, in the sub-headings and in the text.

A Tip: the free Google keyword tool is suitable for keyword research.

Step # 3

The thoughts are free

First of all, you have to write down everything that comes to mind after researching the topic. The structure, spelling or other minor details can be neglected. The focus is on: let your thoughts run free and write them down.

Step # 4

The rough draft is followed by the structure

Voilà! By completing the third step, you should now have a rough draft of your post.

Then, of course, the structure follows. And how is a structure characterized?

Precisely, through subheadings, of course.

Step # 5

The gaps are there to be filled.

The structure has now been created — but there are gaps — and these are there to be filled!

The structure makes it possible to fill in the gaps quickly and sensibly. This removes the mental block and makes writing clearly easier.

Step # 6

The finishing touches

The headline, keywords, structure and the rough text, are in place — now it’s a matter of putting the finishing touches to the rough diamond. Remember: Blogging is like speaking to a person!

You shouldn’t be writing a factual article — it’s more about the open, free conversation.

The spice of a blog article can also include plenty of examples, storytelling, and entertainment.

A good blog post should always end with a request, e.g. a question, to initiate a conversation with your readers.

A Tip: read your text aloud (preferably from top to bottom), pay attention to what sounds better and what you could still improve.

You can ask yourself whether the sentences sound right, are grammatically correct, the paragraphs make sense, whether some things are superfluous, etc.

Step # 7

The fine-tuning

Congratulations! The blog post is almost finished now! Fine-tuning is not about further optimization but about a break. Because, as is well known, one is at some point “blind” — from reading and overthinking.

A Tip: set your article aside for a day and reread it the next day. This creates a new perspective, and you notice things that you would have overlooked the day before!

Step # 8

The Images

Images in blog posts are primarily there to support your text. So it’s about creating suitable images yourself or searching for them. An article image is also required. This should have the file name and the alt tag of your primary keyword!

A Tip: you can get great free pictures from Unsplash.com, for example.

Step # 9

The spelling

Of course, you should also check your blog post for the correct spelling.

Tip: the spell check is straightforward if the text is copied and pasted into Word or Grammarly
